Launched in June 2021, the OnePlus TV, model name, 55U1S, is a 55-inch Ultra HD 4K Smart LED TV. If you are looking for an affordable large 4k HDR TV, is the new OnePlus TV U Series (55U1) an excellent choice? Check out our review to find out.

This OnePlus TV measures 55-inch (139 cm) and has a 4K Ultra HD (3840×2160) resolution, making images and videos look sharper and clearer. With a Bezel-less design, it gives out 1 billion colors. Plus, it has a refresh rate of 60Hz, which means smoother motion.

It has an image aspect ratio of 16:09 and 95.3% Screen to Body Ratio. This TV supports all of the most popular HDR formats, including HDR10 and HDR10+ certified, HLG, and Dolby Vision. It also has a 178 degree wide viewing angle and high brightness.

The picture quality of this 55 Inch TV is superb, and the colors appear pretty natural almost all of the time. However, the TV could never get a genuine black, with almost all black areas seeming more like dark grey.

This Smart TV with an aluminum body is only 6.9 mm in thickness on the top and the sides. It is 11kg and 500g in weight. The screen’s borders are narrow, with a little OnePlus logo right below the screen. The significantly thicker bottom piece has a typical carbon-fiber-like appearance, with wall mount sockets in the center and all ports on the right, as well as a detachable shroud.

It has 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage, but a substantial portion of that is taken up by the preinstalled software, leaving you with just under 7 GB spare.

A four-speaker layout at the bottom of the TV produces a total sound output of 30W. Dolby Audio and Dynaudio sound formats are supported, and a Bluetooth Stereo mode enables you to use the television as a Bluetooth speaker with source devices like smartphones and tablets. Dolby Audio provides you with a clear, precise, rich bass sound that transforms your home into an audio powerhouse.

The OnePlus TV provides a well-balanced sound profile and booming stereo and a vast sound field for a full film audio experience. The speakers can provide a reasonable amount of audio frequencies in various modes but not together.

The OnePlus TV offers three HDMI ports, both HDMI 2.1-compatible with other eARC connectors, in the Connectivity area. In addition to this, it has 2 USB ports to connect hard drives and other USB devices. There’s also an Ethernet connector for wired Internet access.

All ports are located closer to the right side of the TV and are accessible easily. The lack of a 3.5mm audio connection is notable. However, there is Bluetooth for wireless speakers or headphones. Apart from this, it offers Blu-Ray players gaming consoles too.

Wireless connectivity options include Bluetooth 5.0 for connecting to wireless speakers or headphones, as well as dual-band WiFi.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to Screen Mirror your phone?

There are three different ways to activate screen mirroring.

  • Go to your Phone Settings and look for Screen Cast/Mirroring, then choose 1+ TV from the list of available devices.
  • Open your profile in the Connect App and choose Mirror Cast (single device) or Multicast (two devices)
  • Download the Google Home app and pair your devices with 1+TV. Go to your profile in the Home App, click casting, and pick 1+ TV under the devices section.

Is there a headphone jack in the OnePlus TV U1S?

No. Only HDMI eARC, Bluetooth (5.0), and Optical Cable are supported for audio devices.

Is it possible to connect the OnePlus TV U1S to a Bluetooth speaker?

Yes, you can use the OnePlus TV as a Bluetooth speaker. Pair your phone’s Bluetooth to the TV via Settings< Remote and Accessories< Add accessory, and your TV’s speaker will function as a Bluetooth speaker. From now on, simply connect the phone to the TV via Bluetooth, and the Bluetooth stereo app will instantly launch to play the audio stored on the phone.

Why can’t I discover many apps in the Google Play Store?

The vast majority of apps are intended for mobile devices. Because the Android TV OS is developed exclusively for large screens/TVs, the software must be re-configured to work on this platform. That is why there is a separate Play Store. To install the side applications, you can follow this procedure:

  • Install the “Send Files to TV” app on both your phone and your television.
  • On your phone, download the appropriate APK and save it in a folder that is easily accessible. I usually kept it in the Downloads folder.
  • On the phone, go to “Send File to TV” and press Send. The App will prompt you to choose the file you want to send. Select the file you downloaded by browsing through the directories. Select the OnePlus TV that is available for file transfer from the app’s search results.
  • “Send Files to TV” will automatically open on the TV and display the file transfer process. After the transfer is complete, open File Manager and navigate to “Download,” the default storage path in the “Send Files to TV” section.
  • After you click on the APK you’ve transferred, you’ll be given the option to install it. When you click install, it will ask you to install unknown programs from the folder you just opened. Simply grant the file manager permission before returning to the APK and clicking install.
  • The application is now installed successfully.

This OnePlus Tv is less expensive than the Q1 series from the previous year. The picture quality and design are excellent, except for the weak black levels. The sound quality isn’t up to par for the part. But one of the best features it gives you is Multicast and downloading some side applications from the play store.
