Lenovo Legion Y540 Laptop Review

Don’t you hate when your laptop acts up while you are in the middle of a game? Slow and unresponsive, almost good for nothing. It can get frustrating. Choosing the right laptop for your gaming is also hectic. You have to make sure companies are not trying to sell away their product. Your gaming needs to be uninterrupted, and the laptop should have powerful processors for that to happen. However, the performance of a laptop depends upon a lot of internal factors, some of which are not very easily understood. Thus, buying a perfect gaming laptop becomes difficult.

Lenovo Legion Y540 makes choices much easier for you. It is a perfect laptop for gamers and people who use heavy applications to multitask. It has a stylish legion logo on the surface and gives the laptop a very sporty look. One look at the laptop, and people will easily recognize it as a gamers laptop. It has a unique design and offers features that would perfectly suit all your gaming needs. Here, we discuss the things in this laptop that are good and the factors that do not make it a good buy.

Build and Design

Lenovo Legion Y540 gives a very clean and classy design. It has a design and style that most people today find attractive. The Legion logo on the aesthetic surface somewhat gives a very sporty look. Most gaming laptops have a very aggressive look to make them look like a gaming machine. This Best Lenovo laptop gives a very clean and professional look and can be taken anywhere. It is smooth, easy to clean, and comes with a good holding grip.

The best part about this laptop is that it has interfaces and ports towards the back, so the surrounding area of the laptop looks very clean. Most of the time, you see the ports on the sides, making the laptop space look very messy with cables all around. With this design, all the cables will go from the back, and you will not be disturbed while using the laptop. You could put your snacks, drinks, gaming accessories without the fear of them tripping on the cable. This is a BIG win for everybody. The hinges of the laptop make the lid very flexible and have a unique design. It can be flexed to almost 180 degrees. The hinges are at the top of the base. Usually, you find them protruded or cut off on the side.

The small bezels on three sides make the screen look bigger and very impressive. It is almost less than 6mm. The Anti-glare screen uses IPS technology and is 15.6 inches! With a 60Hz refresh rate and 250 Nits Brightness, this laptop ensures a great viewing experience. 64% SRGB takes down a few points from this laptop. A higher SRGB would give better screen contrast.

Navigation/Buttons

The trackpad and keyboard are well-spaced, have a backlight, and give a very smooth user experience. The trackpad has two buttons for your left and right-click. No fingerprint sensor is available, which is usually expected at this price. Being a gamers laptop, there is not much to do about the keyboard since gamers usually use accessories. Still, for other purposes, the laptop works well. The Webcam and the Power button on the laptop are in the middle. The Power button is usually found on the side.

The Webcam placing, however, is not very good. Personally, I prefer Webcams at the top center of the laptop because it makes for a good capture angle. A webcam at the bottom is most of the time a disadvantage and also restricts the camera view to a great extent. However, since this is a Gaming Laptop under 90000, the webcam is not of much importance here, but if you work and video call with the laptop, it might be a slight disadvantage.

Performance

Lenovo Legion Y540 has a 9th Generation, Intel Core i5 processor. To be specific, it works with 6 cores. This makes the processor very unique and powerful. The 6 Core i5 processor provides a very good response time and stability for multitasking. While using heavy applications and gaming, this laptop runs pretty smoothly, and you will not encounter any trouble.

High graphics-intensive games can cause some trouble. You could also face some type of bottlenecking, meaning the hardware could get slow in responding and limit its potential. This may lead to slight problems while gaming. However, this can be taken care of by using an 8GB stick to create more memory so that the GPU and CPU perform at their best.

The Legion laptop has heat pipes coming out from two sides, which ensures cooling and sustained system performance. However, the airflow of the laptop is not quite constructive, which makes the laptop heat up in case of heaving gaming, especially if the area is covered. This heating up can cause the system to falter. It works best when not restricted and the airflow area is free. Therefore you must ensure you are not restricting or covering the laptop while gaming. Otherwise, the heat up will mess with the CPU performance.

Battery Life

Battery life is where this laptop loses the most points! Lenovo Legion Y540 uses 1 Lithium Polymer battery of 52.5Wh. The company claims that the laptop has a battery life of 5 hours. However, because it has a 9th Generation Intel Core i5 processor and a RAM of 8GB, either the speed of the battery is compromised. In some cases, both! In this case, we can expect the battery to drain in as quickly as 2-3 hours while using applications like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and/or high graphic games.

At such a high price, we can expect to have better battery life and some extra features. This laptop provides nothing extraordinary. For a gamer, however, this will be the biggest drawback. The battery could drain very quickly while playing heavy games, so the user must always have a source for the plug-in. For most gamers, however, that will never be a problem. You can connect your gaming accessories and other gadgets but be sure of having a power supply if you want your game uninterrupted.

Final Thoughts On Lenovo Legion Y540 Laptop Review

On the whole, Lenovo Legion Y450 is a good choice for all gamers out there. Especially for people who are looking for gaming laptops in the mid-range, this laptop can be considered for purchase. This laptop is good for people who like to multitask and do basic computing tasks like taking classes or regular office work. Also, a good choice for people with daily usage of heavy applications like Illustrator, Premium Pro, Adobe Photoshop, etc. Video editing can be done very smoothly.

The graphics in this laptop are average for people who are into graphic intensive work. However, there are other variants of this laptop that offer higher SRGB and better graphics. This laptop is not suitable for designers of any kind. For mid-range gaming laptops, Lenovo Legion is a good buy. Although you might feel the need to upgrade the memory, this laptop will suffice for your office work and play.  There are other options available if you don’t think this laptop is right for you. Overall, an average buy.
